A natural gas pipeline recently exploded in California. An article in Courthouse News indicates part of the problem with PG&E, the utility responsible for maintenance of the gas pipeline, was “rot” in their GIS. They didn’t have accurate and up-to-date information about the gas pipeline in their GIS. This is a great example of why GIS rot is so dangerous. The cost of inaction is often much greater than the cost of action.
